SMD diode, also known as crystal diode, is an electronic device with unidirectional conduction current. In semiconductor diode, there is a PN junction and two lead terminals. The electronic device has unidirectional current conduction in the direction of applied voltage. Generally speaking, SMD is a p-n junction interface formed by the sintering of p-type and n-type semiconductors. A space charge layer is formed on both sides of the interface to form self built electric field. When the applied voltage is equal to zero, the diffusion current is equal to the drift current caused by the self built electric field due to the carrier concentration difference on both sides of the p-n junction, which is also the normal diode characteristic.
